To lead engagements that support the client's business objectives. Managers are expected to understand the client’s needs and translate them into projects that yield insightful data to support the client’s business and goals. Managers schedule the project to be completed on time and within budget by managing Consultants and Senior Consultants, defining the pieces of the project, delegating work, monitoring progress and ensuring quality and accuracy. Although not necessarily responsible for the sale of the work, Project Managers represent the brand and their work is a direct reflection of the company in the eyes of the client. Therefore, their work has great importance in building and sustaining the client relationship.
By leading client engagements, the Manager role is critical to the success and growth of the Firm. They are expected to deliver high quality work products and maintain the profitability of engagements that they manage. This is not an entry-level position and therefore is likely to be filled by only the most successful Senior Consultants who have demonstrated a deep interest in the industry and a passion for the business. Although not impossible to enter this position from outside the organization, an applicant could only enter as a Manager if he/she has extensive industry experience and brings a substantial level of expert knowledge and a personal client book. More likely the Manager is a Senior Consultant that has mastered their role, has willingly taken on more responsibility, and has consistently demonstrated a thorough and on-time delivery of major components of projects in the past.
Managers should demonstrate the ability to develop positive relationships with client executive personnel that lead to repeat business. They need to demonstrate continued growth in their technical skills, which are recognized by our clients and their outside counsel as “experts” in one or more of REG’s business lines. Internally, Managers are expected to take a proactive role in the development of Staff and assist in the performance appraisal process. Externally, Managers should seek opportunities to make presentations at industry functions and/or take part in executive seminars.
